The Third Act
What is The Third Act?
The Third Act arises out of human longevity. We are living 25-30 years longer than our great-grandparents. These years give us the equivalent of an entirely new phase of adulthood. Many refer to this as life’s “new third age” or the “The Third Act.” Careful though, there is a critical difference between the two! “Everyone who lives long enough will have a third age; not everyone who lives long enough will have a Third Act. The third age comes to us from the ‘outside in’ and arises because of improvements in life conditions. We come to The Third Act from the ‘inside out’ and it arises from our capacity to upgrade ourselves to the next stage of human consciousness.” - The Third Act creator, Charles Handy
The Beyond Way™ Guide - The Third Act
Based on the work of many experts in the field, The Third Act is a dynamic, new way of approaching this exciting stage in life. The Third Act is built around three questions: 1) Where am I now? 2) How did I get here? 3) Where am I going?
The Beyond Teal Guide is delivered over a six month period and provides you with a platform to explore your transition to your life’s Third Act. The method of delivery is facilitative and interactive. It explores and assists resolving:
What is the Third Act that I wish to create?
How do I assess and pinpoint where I am now?
What did I learn in my first and second acts?
Am I looking forward to my Third Act?
What might my highest potential be in my Third Act?
How do I create a Third Act that fulfills that potential?
Beyond Teal
The Third Act can also apply to organizations. According to Dr. Clare W. Graves, Professor of Psychology, Union College Schenectady, there are currently eight human development levels for personal growth, organizational development, and cultural/political change. Beyond Teal explores these levels and what might lay beyond. Teal for organizations is based on the book by Frederic LaLoux entitled Reinventing Organizations.
Time Commitment
Guidance sessions are 2-4 hours per month in one-to-ones with Bruce Peters.
The Third Act started in earnest for Bruce when the poem by Ranier Maria Rilke fell into his hands.
“Don’t search for answers which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them.
And the point is to live everything. Live the question now! Perhaps, gradually without noticing it you will live the way to your answer!”
Let’s get started living your answer now!
